The Media Integrity Initiative Africa (MIIA) has officially kicked off its April 2025 Training Series with a resounding success, following a highly anticipated launch session on Saturday, April 12. The event, which took place via Google Meet, marked the beginning of a transformative learning journey for over 150 emerging media professionals across the continent.
In the weeks leading up to the series, MIIA reported an overwhelming interest in its quarterly training programme, with over 190 registrations received before the deadline on March 31. After a thorough selection process, over 150 participants were admitted into a dedicated WhatsApp group that now serves as the main communication hub for the training cohort.
The inaugural session featured two impactful masterclasses led by seasoned professionals:
-
“Writing for Digital Media” presented by Dr Tony Onyima, FNGE, and
-
“Crisis Communication and Management” delivered by Alex Ogundadegbe
Feedback from attendees suggests the sessions were nothing short of inspirational. Participants described the classes as “insightful,” “practical,” and “educative.” Dr Onyima’s session, in particular, left many eager for more:
“The entire 56 slides by Dr Tony Onyima are very incisive and instructive… it will be highly appreciated if the paper can be sent to the participants as a PDF document,” said Afolabi Faramade.
Others echoed this sentiment:
“That was so insightful, informative, and educative,” said Amos Mcroy.
“Thank you, sir, Mr Ogundadegbe, for your beautiful presentation,” added Gracious Akintayo.
“Thanks so much for your brilliant presentation, sir,” noted Olalekan Olagunju.
Building on the momentum of its successful debut, the training series continues on Saturday, April 19, with another round of high-impact sessions:
-
“The Art of Effective Presentation” by Tokunbo Ojekunle, and,
-
“Photography: The Critical Minimum” by Dr Adeboye Ola.
