The organisers of the awards are seeking nominations for the WALE OLOMU MEMORIAL AWARDS (WOMA) 2023, as mentioned in a press release signed by Mr Femi Akintunde-Johnson (FAJ), the coordinator. The release calls  for “credible, worthy and inspirational potential recipients of the maiden edition of WOMA to be nominated.” The awards to be held between 9 and 23 December 2023 will be broadcast on the two-hour-long radio show on TopRadio 90.9 FM. The time slots for the programme schedule on each of the weeks commencing 9th, 16th and 23rd December is 7am to 9am.

There are two main nomination categories: Special Recognition Awards (SRA) and Lifetime Achievement Awards (LAA). Neither category is competitive, nor subjected to voting and regular selection processes. However, a Steering Committee shall be set up to review the credentials and pedigrees of nominated personalities, and thereafter identify and present a worthy candidate for each category.

According to the press release, the Steering Committee would also receive encouragement to carefully exercise their judgement, exposure, and affinity with Nigerian entertainment. There are two qualifying criteria for SRA and LAA nominees. One is that they should be immensely talented, and creative, and would have made outstanding contributions in any area of the Nigerian music industry having been active practitioners for at least 10 years (35 years and above for the LAA). Second is that wherever they may be in the world does not matter, they simply have to be bona fide Nigerians.

Tentative categories earmarked for nominations include, but are not restricted to: Music Producers, Sound Engineers, Studio Managers, Music Video Editors, artist managers, and Band Managers. Also assigned are Live Show Photographers, Set Designers, Session Men,  Backup Vocalists, Percussionists, Disc/Vid Jockeys, and Hype Men/Women. This nomination exercise will remain open for public contributions until the last minute of Friday, the 3rd day of November 2023.

Experienced and reputable volunteers are invited to join the Steering Committee. Interested volunteers should contact the Coordinator directly through:

(WhatsApp Only: 08033150547 / Email: waleolomu1994@gmail.com)

The final selection of successful volunteers would be at the discretion of the organisers.
